Aims of BobSylhet
To promote equality, dignity, safety, and human rights for LGBTQ+ people in Sylhet and across Bangladesh by providing support, raising awareness, encouraging inclusion, and working towards a society where everyone is treated with respect, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
Our Objectives
To provide confidential emotional, social, and practical support to LGBTQ+ individuals in Sylhet and throughout Bangladesh.- To promote equality and challenge stigma, discrimination, violence, and exclusion based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression through peaceful and lawful advocacy.
- To increase public awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues by delivering educational programmes, workshops, discussions, campaigns, and community initiatives that encourage respect, dignity, and inclusion.
- To help LGBTQ+ individuals access appropriate legal information, healthcare, mental health support, education, housing, employment, and other essential services through referrals and partnerships where available.
- To create safe, confidential, and inclusive spaces—both online and offline—where LGBTQ+ people can connect, share experiences, and build supportive networks.
- To collaborate with local communities, civil society organisations, human rights groups, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to promote inclusion and equal opportunities in Bangladesh.
- To improve the mental health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people by promoting peer support, wellbeing activities, counselling referrals, and access to appropriate services.
- To empower LGBTQ+ individuals by encouraging leadership, volunteering, skills development, advocacy, and community participation.
- To conduct research, collect evidence, and document the experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQ+ communities in Sylhet and Bangladesh in order to support evidence-based advocacy and policy development.
- To celebrate diversity and foster a culture of mutual respect, compassion, and inclusion for all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics.
- To support the development of a more inclusive and understanding society in Sylhet and Bangladesh through dialogue, education, community engagement, and the promotion of fundamental human rights.
